Health and Safety has been at the forefront of our minds over the last few months. The UNISON health and Safety reps have carried out inspections at the various sites alongside management and facilities, to make the workplace as safe as possible for when people return.
We will continue to and engage with the company, and insist we are fully consulted on all health and safety issues during this difficult time. We have challenged the company when it’s been necessary, and we will continue to do so on behalf of our members. UNISON play a vital role in ensuring legislation and guidance is followed, support is provided and clear communications are delivered.
With regards to those of you who are now working in the office, or are due to return shortly, we would ask that you follow the rules to the letter, practice social distancing (2 metres) and hand hygiene. We would also recommend the use of face coverings/masks if you’re moving around sites in higher traffic areas as per EON Group’s guidance. Please don’t hesitate to challenge or report if you have any concerns.
Our colleagues in the Field are also returning to work in a safe and secure manner. Again, the same applies to field as it does to the office. If you have any concerns, then flag them up immediately. Your safety is paramount.
It took a while, but colleagues working from home should now have the additional, essential equipment (other than a computer and a headset) they required. If you still require additional equipment to do your job safely and comfortably, then let your manager/people lead know, and contact your UNISON rep should you need any assistance. Employers still have a duty of care whether you’re working from the office or from your kitchen, so if you need help you should receive it.
Coronavirus, your rights at work
Global pandemics can naturally impact Mental Health. There will be times when news reports, government briefings, being apart from loved ones and living in a socially distanced world can be overwhelming. Whether working in the office, field or at home, please don’t suffer in silence. Help is available if you’re struggling, so please let your UNISON rep know, speak with your manager, contact EAP or visit the Wellbeing Hub.
