You will no doubt be aware by now of the company’s announcement – widely covered in the media, and through the so called Town Hall meeting conducted by Chris O’Shea the CEO – in respect of some 5,000 job losses within the company. Alongside which the company has announced its intention to look at changing current Terms and Conditions of employment.
These developments will need to be subject to formal consultation with UNISON. While specific proposals have not been announced in respect of the structure of the company going forward, it is clear that a significant number of managerial jobs are “at-risk”, with some senior managers having already parted company with the business. This said it is also clear that front line jobs are also in the mix as far as reductions are concerned, albeit that the details of which are yet to be shared with us.
From what we know so far the proposed site closure in Leicester and the move to Spinneyside has been placed under review, with presumably the company seeking to learn lessons from their experiences during COVID-19 in which the business has been run through home working.
