UNISON’s campaign for union safety representatives in schools has got off to a great start. School support staff members and local UNISON contacts have begun actively finding out about the union safety rep role. Within a couple of hours of the launch a teaching assistant in Nottingham, had come forward as a safety rep.
Louisa Wass-Griffiths, UNISON East Midlands Head of Local Government said;
“It’s great news school support staff recognise the need for union safety reps in schools as it is likely most schools will be expected to be open by September with increased pupil numbers.
Every school needs a safety rep to work alongside school leaders if we are to help make our schools safe, for children and staff alike.
We should not assume schools are safe just because we want them to be safe. It takes hard work, imagination and determination, something our schools support staff are not short of, to make our schools safe.
Every school needs a union safety rep: Safe schools have a safety rep.”
