FURTHER REPRESENTATION SKILLS
(2 day course – face to face)

Course fee to branches: £85 per delegate (includes a copy of the book ‘Law at Work’)
This 2-day course is aimed at ERA stewards with some representation experience who completed the Organising Steward course at least 6 months ago.
The course covers:
– Exploring what is and what isn’t a case
– Recap on sources of information especially the ACAS code
– Preparing for a grievance and a disciplinary case
– Planning and building a case including interviewing witnesses
– Possible outcomes from cases
– Building confidence, getting organised and looking after yourself.
Completion of this course will extend existing stewards’ ERA accreditation by five years provided they remain an elected rep.

This online course is aimed at existing ERA accredited stewards with little experience of and no previous training in employment law beyond what is covered in the Organising Steward course
The course will include:
– Employment rights – what they are, how they are defined
– The basics of contracts of employment
– The different types of dismissal
– An overview of discrimination law
Completion of this course will extend existing stewards’ ERA accreditation by five years provided they remain an elected rep.

NEURODIVERSITY UNDERSTOOD FOR UNION REPS
(½ days course – online)

Course timings: 9.30 am to 1pm
Course fee to branches: £25 per delegate
This online course (via Teams) will:
- Provide an understanding of neurodiversity in a workplace context
- Give an insight into challenges neurodivergent members may face
- Build your confidence in effectively supporting neurodivergent members
- Provide an understanding of how employers can be more neuro-inclusive
Open to all UNSON reps and branch officers, this course will be delivered by an experienced tutor from the organisation Adjust Services.
TUC Employment Law Courses
TUC Certificate in Employment Law (online course)
This is a practical course designed for trade union workplace reps. It approaches the law from this perspective and its principal concern is how knowledge of and confidence in using employment law can improve workplace bargaining. It is not aimed at legal professionals or the finer points of technical interpretation of the law.
This course is designed for reps who have already completed the TUC Stage 1 Union Representatives Course or its union equivalent.

UNISON Advanced Law Courses
UNISON College offers a range of advanced employment law courses, organised nationally and delivered online via Microsoft Teams.
These courses are intensive and designed for trained & active senior reps who already have a sound understanding of employment law.
To be eligible to attend any of the following you will need to:

be an experienced steward or branch officer who regularly deals with casework; and
-
have a good basic knowledge of employment law (through having completed Introduction to Employment Law or an equivalent course)
