UNISON is committed to supporting members’ learning and development. Not only do we provide our own courses but we work with like-minded organisations to promote their free courses which we know will benefit members.
Distance Learning with Leicester College
Leicester College are able to offer a large number of free Level 2 qualifications. Courses range from 6-18 weeks and are certified by the TQUK and NCFE awarding bodies. You can register through UNISON by following these steps.
Please note, that since the Education Budget for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire has been devolved, Leicester College are unable to offer places to members living in these counties. We are currently in discussions with a provider in Notts/Derbs and will update this shortly.
Step 1 – Have a look at the list of courses and choose one that you’d like to start with
Step 2 – Check the college’s website for more detail and apply!
This will take you to Leicester’s site which searches for all their ‘Distance Learning courses’. Click on the course you are interested in to find out what’s involved and how long it will take.

Please note that if you live outside the East Midlands, in an area where education budgets are devolved, Leicester College may not be able to offer this training for free.
Step 3 – Let us know what you are doing and keep the details on your membership
Whenever you undertake a course through UNISON, this is kept on your membership record (which you will very soon be able to review). As you are enrolling directly with the college this won’t be added unless you give us permission. Please complete this form if you are happy for us to do this.
