Strike fund appeal for Nottingham healthcare workers

Healthcare support workers (HCSWs) at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) are entering their third round of strike action in a long-running dispute over backpay.

After taking 15 days of action in April, May and June, they are now taking 14 consecutive days of strike action.

To date, NUH has failed to make a fair offer that compensates HCSWs for years of working above their pay grade—particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In recent ACAS negotiations, the trust’s offer amounted to just one extra day of annual leave – limited to this year – and it continues to deny that HCSWs played a critical clinical role during the pandemic.

UNISON hopes that this extended industrial action will push NUH to return to the table with a reasonable offer.

While the local branch has been actively raising funds to support hardship claims, the escalating action is stretching its resources. Any financial contributions from other branches would make a significant difference.
