Shape the future: have your say on Mayor Claire’s plans

The Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, is inviting community leaders, residents, and regional partners to join a series of public engagement events this July and UNISON members are strongly encouraged to get involved.

These events are a unique opportunity to help shape the future of our region and ensure that the voices of public service workers and working communities are front and centre.

Since being elected as the first-ever Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward has already secured over £4 billion in government investment for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, a major win for our region. But as the Mayor makes clear, investment alone isn’t enough.

“We’ve got a really exciting future ahead — but we need to make sure that growth reaches everyone,” said Mayor Claire Ward.
“That means more local jobs, tackling health inequalities, improving transport, and unlocking opportunities in every city, town, and village.”

To help deliver on that vision, the Mayor is holding three events this month in Derby, Chesterfield and Nottingham designed to bring together local residents, businesses, community organisations and public service workers.

The aim is to understand the real challenges people are facing, and to make sure the East Midlands Combined County Authority focuses on the things that matter most.

  • Derby – Tuesday 22 July, 2:00–4:00pm

  • Chesterfield – Wednesday 23 July, 8:00–10:00am

  • Nottingham – Thursday 24 July, 8:00–10:00am

UNISON is encouraging members and activists across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to attend and take part in these vital conversations. From transport and adult education to health, housing and inclusive growth — this is a chance to make sure the priorities of working people are heard loud and clear.
