Strikes cancelled as staff accept improved pay offer

Strike action by workers providing local authority services in Derbyshire has been called off after staff accepted a better pay deal.

Grave diggers, refuse collectors, park wardens and street cleaners employed by Alliance Environmental Services, which runs services for High Peak Borough Council, have accepted a new pay deal that brings staff into line with workers doing similar jobs and who are directly employed by the council.

Strikes initially planned for next week have now been called off.

UNISON East Midlands regional organiser Matt Dwyer said: “These workers serve our local communities with great pride. They work long hours in all weather, cleaning streets, maintaining parks and collecting bins. It’s only right they are fairly rewarded for that work.”
