UNISON East Midlands Branch Awards 2025

On Friday evening, over 150 UNISON activists and members gathered at the Holiday Inn in Leicester for the UNISON East Midlands Branch Awards 2025.

The event was a chance to celebrate the outstanding contributions of our branches, activists, and members across the region, recognising the hard work, dedication, and passion that drives our union forward.

From recruitment and training to campaigning and communications, the ceremony honoured those who have made the most significant impact in building a stronger, fairer union for workers.

This year’s winners were:

    For recruiting and training the greatest number of new activists.
  • Promoting Member LearningLiz Long
    For going above and beyond in helping members develop their skills and grow within the union.
  • Branch CommunicationsNUH & AS branch
    For their exceptional use of social media, newsletters, and member engagement, ensuring members stayed informed and connected.
  • Branch CampaignDerbyshire UNISON branch
    For leading a powerful campaign that united members, the public, and the media to win for workers.
  • Equalities ActivistEmma Procter
    For tirelessly championing equality and ensuring every member and activist is treated with dignity and respect.
  • Recruitment AwardLeicestershire Healthcare & Notts County branches
    For recruiting the most new members this year, with both branches leading the way in expanding our union’s strength.
  • Activist Rising StarRuth Alderson
    For quickly establishing themselves as a new activist, speaking up for workers, and pushing for real change.
  • Outstanding ActivistAndy Langford
    For their long-standing, unique contribution to UNISON and the wider trade union movement, demonstrating exceptional dedication to improving working conditions and workers’ rights.

UNISON East Midlands regional secretary Chris Jenkinson said: Each of our winners has shown exceptional dedication and passion for improving the lives of workers in our region, standing up for what’s right, and strengthening our union.
