The Branch has now held two stewards’ meetings following the company’s announcement of some 5,000 redundancies and they are signalling that they want to change terms and conditions of employment.
In addition to which the Branch has been represented at the British Gas sector committee meetings.
The union will be undertaking a significant amount of work during the coming weeks through representing members in the collective consultation, providing support and advice, communicating with members and where necessary campaigning alongside you in responding to the company’s plans.

Despite the fact that UNISON is the major Trade Union within British Gas, you will be aware that there are still many people who are non-trade union members. We are directly seeking your support in our campaign to make sure that these workers join UNISON and in so doing strengthen our position within the negotiations.
The things that we have taken for granted in the past in respect of our terms and conditions are now under threat. We are asking you to play your part in encouraging your friends and family members who work in the business to help defend our conditions by joining UNISON.
