UNISON wins fair pay battle at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust

During the COVID19 crisis United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust proposed to employ catering and cleaning staff on the national minimum wage.

The UNISON branch at the trust immediately raised its opposition after reading the story in the local press. The NHS and UNISON agree rates of pay nationally to ensure fair pay for all staff across the organisation. This means that staff undertaking the same work will receive the same rates of pay to ensure fairness and equal pay. The trusts proposals would have cut the wages of new staff by over £1,9000 per year despite carrying out the same work as other staff.

UNISON’s intervention made the trusts rethink its proposal and all staff will now be paid the full nationally agreed agenda for change rate of pay putting more money into staff’s pockets each month.

Elliot Dean UNISON East Midlands Regional Organiser said “Its vital that all staff doing the same job get paid the same rates of pay. UNISON are committed to ensuring equal pay for equal work and are glad the trust has seen sense. This agreement will put over £1,900 a year back into the pockets of NHS staff who are putting their lives on the lines to deal with this national crisis.”
