The Coronavirus Pandemic is the biggest threat our Country, our lives and our economy have faced since the Second World War.
Everyone has been affected by the current restrictions which are keeping us safe, if not quite so sane. We are working hard at all levels of the union to keep our people safe in work and support them if they’re off, this has included welfare calls starting with NHS and care staff. We’re checking people are okay, that they have access to food and other essentials, and to offer reassurance during this difficult time.
“The work we normally do like visiting workplaces and representing members is temporarily on hold until after the lock down. So we’ve used the time to call people up and check they’re okay. It’s been great sometimes we’re the only contact members have received that day.
We start off the conversation about work, their health and wellbeing, but soon the conversation takes its own direction, people are just pleased the union has taken the time to call.” Rosie Bartram, Organiser at UNISON East Midlands
UNISON East Midlands are also supporting Nottingham Citizens and Citizens UK with a piece of work concerning Coronavirus. They’re doing a listening exercise to help understand how working people are being impacted and the problems they face. Please help them by filling in this short survey.
