Securing safe systems of work and winning improved terms for Furloughed workers has been keeping UNISON Lead Representatives extremely busy during this difficult unprecedented period.
We have a daily meeting with management to raise concerns and issues on behalf of our members, like who needs to come into work because their role is essential and who can and should be working from home. And where we people are attending work we are making sure social distance can be observed and where required protective equipment is available.
You can find this information on the Residential Connect page it details what activities are deemed essential, along with the number of colleagues required to undertake this work. Which can be found here
The situation can change because our assessments are based on advice from Government and emerging practice in the sector. Work is still being done to enable as many employees as possible to work from home or to be furloughed if necessary.
Furlough – we’ve negotiated improvements on the Governments scheme – if you’re furloughed you get 100% of base salary during the period you are furloughed. You will however forfeit any entitlement to accrue holiday during this period. This is a major improvement on the statutory scheme, the fact none of our members will see pay cuts of 20% serves to illustrate the difference of being in a union organised workplace.
Remember this is the current position of the company an it may change if the furlough period is extended beyond the end of May 2020.
