Free Courses with the National Careers Service

Union Learning Reps (ULR’s) in Nottinghamshire recently ran a course on CV Writing and Interview Skills which had over 157 applications from members. From this we have started to develop a partnership with the National Careers Service in the East Midlands who can offer a wide range of education for adults who may be interested.

The National Careers Service

What is our service? 

The National Careers Service offers information, advice and guidance to adults on employment and learning.  It is government funded and is completely free of charge.

Who is entitled to the National Careers Service advice and support?

  • NEET 18 y/olds and any adults aged 19+
  • Living, working or studying in the East Midlands

Our staff are

  • Experienced, qualified Careers Advisers
  • Friendly, supportive and adaptable to individual and partner requirements
  • Impartial and able to advise on and refer to a wide range of local provision

Our offer

Delivered via group workshops, we provide support on a range of subjects to assist our customers.  Popular topics include:

  • Career planning: help to understand the current labour market, identify transferable skills, new career paths and routes into employment
  • Covering letters: how to gain the attention of prospective employers
  • CV support: for those new to CVs or with an existing. Our support provides customers with the ability to target their information to meet employers needs and stand out from the crowd
  • Understanding the local labour market: What skills are most in demand, who are the largest employers, how many live vacancies are there in specific roles / sectors?
  • Help to find new employment: tips, resources and advice including how to get the best from popular sites such as Indeed, Find a Job, Indeed, Linked-In and other social media
  • Application form: guidance on how to build a winning application and how this will support the interview phase
  • Interview skills & mock interviews: planning and preparation, types of interview and questions to expect and how to positively promote abilities.
  • Information on training providers / further learning, including advice on funding

All of our customers are offered further, personalised support after their initial intervention via:
