Update for British Gas Members

Support available to our members throughout the negotiations 07/20

UNISON realise that this is a very worrying and unsettling time for employees. Members are rightly upset and concerned about the approach being taken by management and we are currently facing an uncertain future.

The threat of redundancy and the imposition of inferior terms and conditions is hanging over thousands of British Gas employees’ heads at the moment. Unfortunately, the aggressive way the business has gone about trying to achieve these changes by threatening to dismiss and re-engage staff on new terms if they cannot reach agreement with the TU is unacceptable and makes a mockery of the term ‘holding meaningful consultations’.

UNISON assistant general secretary Christina McAnea says:

“This is disgraceful behaviour. British Gas might be struggling financially but it’s no way to treat loyal staff, many of whom have been with the business for years.

“Employees have worked hard throughout the past few months to ensure customers are well-served, despite the pandemic. This is no way for company directors to repay them.

“With so many jobs being lost across the UK, staff will feel betrayed by the business. Unions will be doing everything in their power to win employees a better deal.”
